Unemployed in Denmark? Take up software development

From March last year, the unemployment in Denmark was going steadily up. Both the hospitality and aviation industries have been hit particularly hard. Since May, the unemployment numbers have been dropping again, even though there are still around 32 thousand more unemployed people than in February. With the Mink industry in Denmark closing down due to COVID-19 and heavier restrictions, we will likely see a new spike in unemployment in the coming months. So what can you do if you are one of the people that became unemployed in Denmark? You can take up software development.

The IT-industry is thriving

The Coronavirus has heavily hit many industries, but some are doing better than ever due to more online activity. The biggest tech companies in the world are all hitting record-high stock prices as they keep increasing in value. For many companies in the IT-industry, the Coronavirus has resulted in a major activity spike. As a result, there is now a higher demand for a qualified workforce.

Unemployed means opportunity

With the current job market being insecure in many industries, you might have been let go or thinking of a career change due to the uncertainty. Learning software development is the solution to your career change, as the demand before the crisis was already well known. During Covid-19, the demand has only become bigger, as IT companies are looking to upscale their workforce. Code Institute trains complete beginners to software developers, making it the ideal place to turn unemployment into opportunity.

The future is online

But it is not only the IT-industry that needs programmers. Denmark is among the most digitalised countries in the world, where almost all companies use IT-solutions to solve essential issues. According to the Ministry of Trade, the demand for IT-personal will only grow as more companies take up digital tasks in their business. Furthermore, the current pandemic has shown both government and companies that the future is online, as both work and education have had to move to online platforms.
