South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority in collaboration with Code Institute, is offering a fully-funded High Performance Full Stack Software Developer: Skills Bootcamp to unemployed learners that reside in the South Yorkshire region interested in moving into the tech industry.

Skills Bootcamps are full-time 16 week programmes that help to bridge the tech skills gap in England.
No Experience Required
This Skills Bootcamp prepares learners for careers in the digital workforce as Full Stack Software Developers.

Learning Outcomes
By participating in the 16 week Skills Bootcamp, learners will gain comprehensive skills in developing full stack web applications. The curriculum emphasises the utilisation of agile methodologies for efficient planning and design, with a focus on implementing MVC (Model-View-Controller) frameworks and contemporary technologies.
They learn to design data models, implement features, and manage data effectively. Security features like authorisation and authentication are emphasized. Learners also gain expertise in testing, version control, and deployment to cloud platforms. Throughout the program, they acquire a strong understanding of object-based software concepts, preparing them for careers in web development.

Onboarding, Intro to HTML, Agile behaviours, Careers.
Week 2
HTML to CSS, Problem-solving.
Week 3
CSS Fonts & measurement units, Dealing with Distractions, Accountability.
Week 4
Intro to an IDE and Git, Teamwork, personal retro.
Week 5
UX, HTML & CSS project, Team planning, How to Estimate.
Week 6
Bootstrap library, Team retros.
Week 7
Bootstrap project, Lightning Jam & decision-making.
Week 8
Hackathon 1, Careers, Intro to imperative languages, presentation basics.
Week 9
JavaScript, The Creativity Cycle, Pair Programming.
Week 10
JavaScript Challenge, APIs, Hackathon 2, Careers, Presenting solutions.
Week 11
Intro to Python.
Week 12
Python & Postgres, using an ORM.
Week 13
Intro to Python web frameworks, Django.
Week 14
Building a blog app in Django, Hackathon.
Week 15
Capstone project week.
Week 16
Capstone project week (summative assessment), Careers sessions & closing day.
The final weekly curriculum will be confirmed following the assessment process completion.
Entry Requirements

Learners must be aged 19 or older.
- Must LIVE IN THE SOUTH YORKSHIRE region.
- Must be currently unemployed or able to commit to a full-time 16 week training programme.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
- Evidence of English language ability equivalent to IELTS academic level 6.0 if not a native speaker.
- Must not have taken part in another Skills Bootcamp programme within the current financial year (April 2024 – current date).
- Have been ordinarily a resident in the UK or British Overseas Territories or Crown Dependencies (Channel Islands and Isle of Man) for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of learning. Exceptions apply, please direct your query to Code Institute’s admissions team after registering your interest.
Delivery & Assessment
- Code Institute provides the Learning Management System, course content, community and tutor support to enable learners to succeed.
- The Skills Bootcamp is delivered fully-online.
- Learners will complete three collaborative hackathon challenges and a summative final capstone project whilst on the programme, thus creating a body of work that can be shown to prospective employers and support their future employment opportunities.
Funding for Skills Bootcamp in Software Development
Funding is available for adults aged 19 or older who live within the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority region or are willing to secure employment within this region. This funding is intended for those who are currently unemployed or can commit to full-time training. The aim of Skills Bootcamps is to help you develop new skills that employers are seeking.
