When Natasha De Jonghe enrolled in the Professional Certificate in Data Analytics & AI, she was not looking to become a data scientist. She was looking for a way to make her community’s story visible. As the founder of RE(YOU)S C.I.C., a social enterprise in Coventry that enables community members to access resources through a token-based exchange model, Natasha wanted to capture what her organisation was achieving and show it back to the people who made it happen. The course gave her that capability and, in doing so, challenged everything she thought she knew about who data analytics is for.
Is Data Analytics Really That Technical?
The assumption that data analytics requires a technical background is one Natasha now actively pushes back on. In her view, the real requirement is not a particular qualification but a particular way of thinking.
“It’s not about technical background. It’s about somebody who’s analytical, who follows processes, a process thinker. My mindset is about how data tells a story and the ethics behind it.”

Natasha came to Code Institute’s data analytics training for non-technical professionals after attending a local event in Coventry and completing an AI maturity assessment. She was drawn in not by promises of career transformation but by a straightforward question: how could her organisation capture data and use it efficiently to demonstrate community impact? What she discovered was that the course built her knowledge gradually, with each week’s learning reinforcing the last. Weekly quizzes that did not count towards her grade helped her track her own progress. “I was getting the answers right and I thought: I am actually retaining something.”
How Data Analytics Training Helped a Social Enterprise Demonstrate Impact
Natasha’s goal from day one was to build an interactive dashboard that everyone in the community could access. She described it clearly: “We’ve got lots of data, but knowing what that’s worth, where do you put it, how do you show it, what do you do with it was the thing that was missing.” The course gave her the tools to begin shaping how RE(YOU)S C.I.C. could make its impact more visible through dashboards and data storytelling. And the results have gone beyond her original ambition.
Knowing how to build dashboards using Power BI and apply data analytics has opened conversations with other organisations about contracts for ESG and EDI reporting. “We’ve got a definite tangible thing we can offer,” Natasha says. “We can build them into that too. It’s opened another layer to the work, it’s added value.” While she is careful not to put a figure on revenue impact just yet, the pipeline conversations are real and growing.
The effect has extended into her wider network. At a recent session with the School of Social Enterprise, Natasha found herself explaining Power BI to a room of people who had never encountered it. “To them, it was a barrier because they didn’t understand it. They hadn’t seen it and they didn’t even know it was possible. Because I know it’s possible, that’s a big barrier that’s been removed.” She is now actively advocating for data skills across other third-sector organisations.
“Data allows us to show the impact, build the story, and demonstrate back to the community what change they’re having in their local environment. That’s really powerful.”

Can You Learn Data Skills While Staying in Your Current Role?
Natasha completed the 12-week programme while running RE(YOU)S C.I.C. full time. The structure worked around her existing commitments and she would recommend the course without hesitation to others in the third sector. She is also clear that the funded route through the West Midlands Combined Authority made it possible.
“It would not have been possible without the funding mechanism through the WMCA,” she says. For organisations like RE(YOU)S C.I.C., time-stretched and driven by mission, that access is the difference between skills development happening or not. Natasha is already pointing others towards it.
What Can a Data Analytics Course Do for a Social Enterprise?
Natasha’s experience shows what data analytics training for non-technical professionals can achieve when it is built around real-world application. She did not come to the course to change career. She came to make her organisation’s work more visible, more credible and more impactful. She achieved all three and is now helping others in her sector do the same.
