However, one thing they all share is that front-end developers are generally well paid, regardless of location or career stage. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at front-end developer salaries in six different countries across three career stages, giving you a more comprehensive understanding of what you can expect to earn in this field.

Ireland

Front-end Developer: €50,000 – €75,000 

In Ireland, front-end developer salaries are generally higher than in other European countries. According to Indeed, the average salary for a junior front-end developer is around €36,000 per year. A typical front-end developer salary in Ireland is reported to be circa €67,000. 

UK

Front-end Developer: £60,000 – £80,000 (based on London)

In the UK, front-end developer salaries vary depending on the company’s location and size. According to Indeed, a junior front-end developer can expect to earn around £27,000 per year. A typical front-end developer salary in London is reported to be circa €75,000. To offer some perspective, a typical front-end developer salary in the East of England is reported to be circa £50,000 per annum. In Scotland, it’s reported to be £45k, Northern Ireland is reported to be £47k, and Wales is reported to be £49k., 

Sweden

Junior Front-end Developer (1-3 years of experience): SEK 380,000 
Senior Front-end Developer (8+ years of experience): SEK 680,000

In Sweden, front-end developer salaries are quite competitive. For example, a junior front-end developer can expect to earn around SEK 380,000 per year, while the average is circa SEK 551,000. 

Germany

In Germany, front-end developer salaries a junior front-end developer (0-2 years of experience) can expect to earn around €29,000 – €46,000 per year, according to OfferZen. A developer with between 2 and 6 years of experience can expect to earn between €34,000 and €61,000. 

Austria

In Austria, a junior front-end developer (1-3 years of experience) can expect to earn around €40,000 per year, according to the Economic Research Institute. A senior front-end developer (8+ years of experience) can expect to earn circa £75,000 on average. 

Netherlands

As you can see, front-end developer salaries can vary significantly depending on the country and the career stage. However, on average, junior front-end developers (0-3 years of experience) in the Netherlands can expect to earn as much as €50,000 per annum, according to the Hays 2023 Salary Guide. Mid-level front-end developers can earn between €60,000 – €80,000 per year, and senior front-end developers can earn up to €95,000 per year. 

It’s important to remember that these figures are averages, and salaries can vary depending on location, industry, and company size. However, regardless of where you’re based, a career in front-end development can be creatively and financially rewarding.
