{"id":115726,"date":"2022-06-08T10:39:54","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T10:39:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/?p=115726"},"modified":"2022-06-09T15:55:33","modified_gmt":"2022-06-09T15:55:33","slug":"what-is-the-level-up-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/blog\/what-is-the-level-up-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarships for Refugees &#8211; LevelUp"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now in its third year, Code Institute has been working with Zartis to offer scholarships for refugees across several European countries, including Ireland, Spain and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/diverse-workforce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CSR initiative<\/a> is part of the LevelUp programme in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zartis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zartis<\/a> and other education providers. Code Institute aims to upskill refugees and asylum seekers in software development by providing them with focused training and connecting participants with tech employers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many successes have been achieved after participating in this programme for three years. It has assisted in placing students in tech roles with global employers like HubSpot, Ericsson and Starwood Hotels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Code Institute\u2019s programme is 100% online and offers students the flexibility needed in today\u2019s world. In addition, it prepares students for the challenges and expectations of the current job market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Xhuljana Shehu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of our successful graduates was Xhuljana Shehu, who came to Ireland in 2016 as an asylum seeker. While Xhuljana already had a law degree, she could not use it in Ireland. So, she decided to look for training opportunities for in-demand skills that she could learn, use, and excel in. Below is part of Xhuljana\u2019s story.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Xhuljana\u2019s Story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI came to Ireland in 2016 as an asylum seeker. Although I have a law degree, I can not use it in Ireland. So, I started looking for training opportunities to give me skills I can use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2020 I saw an advertisement about the Zartis\/Code Institute programme where they were offering ten scholarships for asylum seekers, and I applied for the programme. I was accepted, and I am very grateful for the opportunity I received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the course with Code Institute, I learned new coding and software development skills. The programme is tough, and I just had a new baby at the time, so I really had to work hard. Although I had never done any coding before, I found it is something I really enjoy, and it\u2019s a great skill to have nowadays.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I qualified recently, so I\u2019m still working in my previous job, but I\u2019m looking forward to making the career change as soon as I have the opportunity. I can see a better future for myself with a coding career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Right now, I\u2019m based in Cork, and I\u2019m open to roles or opportunities as a junior software developer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning to code<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learning software development is incredibly important for the modern workforce. Now, more than ever, businesses need software developers. Code Institute teaches students how to code through their <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/full-stack-software-development-diploma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Full Stack Software Development<\/a> programme. The course is 100% online, and its learning management system is intuitive and easy for students to understand and use.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Code Institute\u2019s course teaches the most in-demand skills to participants, including, but not limited to, <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/blog\/what-is-html-and-why-should-i-learn-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HTML<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/ie\/blog\/what-is-css-and-why-should-i-learn-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CSS<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/ie\/blog\/what-is-javascript-and-why-should-i-learn-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JavaScript<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/ie\/blog\/what-is-python-used-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Python<\/a>, and more. The course also allows students to choose from one of three areas to specialise in after completing the full-stack area of the course. Those areas are; <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/ie\/blog\/the-growth-of-e-commerce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-Commerce<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/ie\/blog\/6-industries-that-use-predictive-analytics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Predictive Analytics<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/global\/blog\/what-is-react-js\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ReactJS<\/a>. These three areas are in huge demand, and knowing them will make our graduates even more attractive to potential employers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Career Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Code Institute\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/career-hub\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Career Accelerator Programme<\/a> is designed to help students to land their new coding careers faster. The goal is to help you change your career. On the programme, you will have the opportunity to partake in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Over 100 hours of career coaching.<\/li><li>Lifelong access to a personalised Career Professional.<\/li><li>Access to the global careers campus.<\/li><li>Collaborative Hackathons.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Software Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cost of software tools can be prohibitive for most junior developers. So, Code Institute has partnered with 3rd party providers to give you access to over \u20ac50K of <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/blog\/github-global-campus-partner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">software tools<\/a> so you can learn to develop like a pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Want to know more?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to apply for Code Institute\u2019s scholarships for refugees and asylum seekers, the first step is to complete our free <a href=\"https:\/\/codeinstitute.net\/global\/5-step-challenge-zartis-level-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">5 Day Coding Challenge<\/a>. This short, free course will teach you the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Then, after one hour a day, over five days, you\u2019ll build your first web page.
